Universities and Research Centers

NC State University: Department of Poultry Science
North Carolina is one of the national leaders in poultry production; approximately 800 million broiler chickens and 39 million turkeys are produced annually in this state. Research at North Carolina State focuses on poultry science in conjunction with human nutrition, genetics, immunology, developmental biology, toxicology, biotechnology, and health.

University of Georgia: Poultry Science
The Department of Poultry Science provides undergraduate and graduate educational experiences for students and service to poultry producers, poultry related businesses and the general public through the dissemination of relevant, science-based knowledge.

Virginia Tech: Department of Poultry and Animal Sciences
The mission of the Animal and Poultry Sciences Department is to provide comprehensive teaching, research, and extension programs for our students regarding the seven major livestock and poultry industries that we serve including beef cattle, broilers, horses, layers, sheep, swine, and turkeys.

Poultry Science Farm: Research at the Farm
The Iowa State University’s Poultry Science Farm is home to the world’s oldest inbred research lines of chickens. In 2005, Department of Homeland Security deemed the poultry farms flock as essential to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Poultry Education and Research Center
Pennsylvania State University’s Poultry Education and Research Center’s recent programs include development of an agricultural Spanish course in conjunction with the Department of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese, co-sponsorship of animal science undergraduate international travel tours, and participation in a Memorandum of Understanding between Penn State and Cairo University that will bring students from Egypt to the University Park campus in order to obtain a B.S. degree in Animal Sciences from Penn State.

Center of Excellence for Poultry Science
The poultry science department and the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas include a complex of teaching, research and extension facilities at the Arkansas Agricultural Research and Extension Center and the John W. Tyson Poultry Science Building on campus. The Princeton Review has designated this University as one of the nation’s “Best 331 Colleges”.

Department of Animal and Avian Sciences: University of Maryland
The Department of Animal and Avian Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park was formed in 1997 through the merger of the Animal Science, Dairy Science and Poultry Science Departments. Research programs are focused upon Animal Genetics and Cell Biology, Nutrient Utilization and Management, Animal Reproduction and Development.

The institute also provides legislative, regulatory and public relations services, conducts scientific and economic research, offers marketing and technical assistance and sponsors education programs.

Poultry Science Association
The Poultry Science Association (PSA) is a professional organization consisting of approximately 3,500 educators, scientists, extension specialists, administrators and producers who are committed to advancing the poultry industry.

Association of Avian Pathologists
This site contains information on the founding and growth of American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) as well as biographical sketches of individuals that have significantly contributed to its development and continuation.

Association of Avian Veterinarians
The mission of this organization is to advance and promote the practice of avian medicine.

Bird Shippers of America
This organization represents the suppliers of poultry, waterfowl, pigeons and other domestic birds to small flock owners throughout the United States.

California Poultry Industry Federation
This Federation represents more than 97 percent of the state’s turkey and broiler, and chicken producers and marketers. A trade association formed in 1990, the California Poultry Industry Federation represents all segments of the industry including growers, hatchers, breeders and processors.

This resource provides information on egg marketing, production and egg related information.

Delmarva Poultry Industry
This organization is the trade association for the broiler chicken industry in Delaware as well as the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia.

National Chicken Council
This organization is a full-service trade association that promotes and protects the interests of the chicken industry and is the industry’s voice before Congress and federal agencies.

United States Poultry and Egg Association
This association is dedicated to the growth, progress, and welfare of the poultry industry and all of its individual and corporate interests

World Poultry Science Association
The role of this association is to encourage, and foster relationships among research scientists and educators.

The United Poultry Growers Association
The mission of this association is to improve the economic and social well-being of contract poultry growers and their families.

Midwest Poultry Consortium
This organization provides leadership, support and resources for poultry education and research in member states.

USA Poultry and Egg Expert Council
This council is a trade association of the United States poultry and egg industry that is dedicated to increasing exports of U.S. poultry and eggs worldwide.

American Pastured Poultry Producers Association
The American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA) is a nonprofit educational and networking organization dedicated to encouraging the production, processing, and marketing of poultry raised on pasture.

Alabama Poultry Producers
Alabama Poultry Producers, a division of Alabama Farmers Federation, is composed of farmers across the state involved in poultry production.

Montana Poultry Growers Cooperative
The Montana Poultry Growers Cooperative was legally incorporated in the state of Montana in April of 2006. The cooperative was organized to provide poultry producers a way to collaborate in meeting their processing and marketing needs.
